The Web Assembly Community

As of Node.js 8+ and supported by most modern browsers we can now run low level assembly code directly in browser without using native modules. This opens up support for writing a whole new range of applications, where previously we had to rely on native add-ons or slow Javascript fallbacks. This talk will be a hands-on introduction on how you start writing node modules yourself backed by assembly and real world examples on modules where WebAssembly has increased performance by 20x!

This article continues my series chronicling my investigation into JavaScript performance by creating HeapViz, a visualization tool for Chrome memory profiles. On the ticket today is a look at how I used WebAssembly to get a large performance increase on my most expensive operation.
